One quibble though:

This being the English here, there’d be none of that “Metric” nonsense. It’d be Imperial Measurements, thank you very much! The Frogs could keep their “Metric” System on their side of the Channel!

That’s a very nice in-universe view of a skirmish… It helps visualising what’s going on and where the game takes place… Chapeaux !
Also, will there be some kind of recognition guide ? The description of a “red” sign typical of the Brest squadron and recognisable from the “Cigogne” markings is tantalising ! What about squadrons from Toul (German border), Toulon, Bordeaux… ? And the Brits ?

Not Babbage calculators; the primitive gun-control devices of ‘real-life’ 1910-1914 look like the bastard children of a sextant and the transmission of a Model-T Ford. The main purpose was to provide a “repeater” in the gun positions, so that a central fire control post could nominate target bearings & elevations.

There is actually several interesting things in this story.

1. The French and British are in disputes as early as 1910.
2. The ships use a mechanical calculator. Possibly a Babbage machine?
3. A destroyer can take a round of fire and still appear to return fire. Also amazing.
